Food Allergies F.A.C.E.D. (Food Allergy Community Education Day) Head On
Girl Scout Troop 40738 is working toward their Girl Scout Gold Award. As part of the process, they are doing a Journey called Sow What? The Journey is about understanding the roots of the food network. The girl scouts are supposed to come to understand their "food prints" by studying where food comes from -- starting with how it is grown and ending with how it comes to be on people's tables. Several of the girls in the troop have food allergies, so the girls are doing their Journey through a food allergy lens.
All Journeys are required to have a final project that impacts the community and demonstrates their understanding of the goals of the Journey. The final project for this Journey will be an event for the community in which the troop teaches people all that they have learned, with an emphasis on food allergies.
The event is called Food Allergies F.A.C.E.D. (Food Allergy Community Education Day) Head On and will be held at Northwood Jr. High School (945 North Avenue, Highland Park, IL 60035) on April 8, 2017. It will be an Open House from 11:00 am to 3:00pm. |
